Was Slayer Too Cool To Rawk Out To Diamond Head?

in a word, NO!

Dr. Martin van Nostrand of the Institute (that’s right) sent us a video of “The Big Four” covering Diamond Head’s “Am I Evil” during one the Sonisphere shows in Europe last month. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer, together on stage for the first time. only thing is, Slayer didn’t show up for the closing number.

so what was up with that? I bet it had something to do with Lars Ulrich. and now, thanks to the wonders of modern technophilia, we have obtained this exclusive transcript of Lars backstage rally to the bands:

“hey guys, we all know that Metallica is the best band in the history of the world, and quite possibly the greatest thing since sliced bread! we single-handedly paved the way for every band that came along with and after us. since we are the headliners, we want everyone to join us on-stage at the end of the show, and play “Am I Evil?” with us! it would be a great way for you all to show your appreciation for us. Dave Mustaine and Megadeth are definitely in b/c we already kicked him out of our band once, and he has secretly always wanted to play with us since then. Anthrax hasn’t been relevant in over 15 years, so they will definitely play with us. how about you guys in Slayer? Reign In Blood was an ok album, but it could never compare to the technical and commercial brilliance of The Black Album. so many radio-friendly hits, it really pretty much paved the way for a band like Nirvana to find the kind of mainstream success that they enjoyed with Nevermind. so can we count on you guys to be out there, Tom (Araya)?

Mr. Araya simply replied, “FUCK NO!!!” but then he later agreed to maybe let Dave Lombardo play drums…
