Bensonhoist Lesbian Ballet Co.

Natalie Portman takes on her greatest role, since that time she played herself, in an episode of “Between Two Ferns” Portman won an Academy Award for her role in “Black Swan” as Nina Sayers, a ballerina who is all-consumed with her work.

she’s up for a role in her ballet company’s production of “Swan Lake.” she’s good enough to play the white swan, but is she good enough to also play the black swan. it’s not long before the pressure of being perfect, takes it’s toll on her. a heated exchange with Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel), the show’s producer, who is constantly urging her to take chances, and break out of her shell, leads him to reconsider his casting, and inevitably puts Nina in the lead role.

however, there is a new understudy, Lily, (Mila Kunis) waiting in the wings. Nina’s professional relationship with Lily, branches off into a friendship, which ultimately threatens to destroy Nina’s career. her constant fear that Lily is trying to replace her, helps send her into the depths of delusion. Nina’s transformation from the white swan into the black swan is completed, with a fantastic closing sequence, on the show’s opening nite.

“Black Swan” does a great job of blurring the line between Nina’s reality, and her deepest, darkest fantasies. paranoia, murder, lesbianism, and illegal drug use, are all explored in this drama/thriller.

after watching “Black Swan” I can see why Natalie Portman won an Oscar. propz to her for not just an incredible acting job, but also for her exquisite work on those ballet numbers. I can only imagine how much rehearsal time she musta put in, to learn all that choreography.

big-ups to Darren Aronofsky, who also directed another of my favourites, The Wrestler. Mickey Rourke wuz robbed of the Oscar!

other notable yaks:
Winona Ryder as Beth MacIntyre – the prima, who has been forced out, with the arrival of Nina.
Barbara Hershey as Erica Sayers – Nina’s oppressive mother, who gave up her own career as a ballerina, to have Nina.
Ksenia Solo as Veronica – the original choice for lead in “Swan Lake”

netflix: 4/5
imdb: 9/10

“I got these cheeseburgers, brah!”

Meh.. This movie was all hype to me. I like Seth MacFarlane’s tweets summary of it… “Bitch be crazy”. To me, it was just ShowGirls – bitches + craziness – showgirl dancing + balley – bad directing + good directing – bad acting + good acting.
