America was bracing for a second term of Reaganomics
a young comedian named Joe Piscopo taught us how to laugh
and Vincent Kennedy McMahon creates WrestleMania

WWE released a three-disc set entitled “The True Story of WrestleMania”

Disc 1 contains a two-hour documentary on WrestleMania. VKM turns the WWF from a territory promotion in the Northeast, into a global phenomenon. they spend a few minutes on each Mania, with some narration (by Goliath of “Gargoyles”) on the major storylines of the show.

IV, IV – Vince’s association with Donald Trump
VI – first WrestleMania held outside the US; Edge attends
VII – Sgt. Slaughter receives death threats for portraying an Iraqi sympathizer
VIII – Hulk vs. Flair never took off
IX – the world’s largest outdoor toga party
X – the ladder match between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels
XI – Lawrence Taylor vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

13 – the arrival of Stone Cold

XX – New York
21 – Los Angeles
22 – Chicago
23 – Cena vs. HBK
24 – Floyd Mayweather vs. Big Show
XXV, XXVI – HBK vs. Taker

they talk about career-defining matches, the differences between wrestling in an arena, as opposed to a stadium, celebrity involvement, the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and innovations Mania has brought like the Money In The Bank ladder match. there are also lots of interviews from legends and current stars, about their favourite Mania moments, and what makes the event so great. they spend a few minutes talking about key figures who helped shape Mania: Hulk, Austin, Rock, HBK, Taker.

there are 11 matches across two bonus discs. most notably, Savage vs. Steamboat at III. sadly, this DVD contains no interviews with the Macho Man. this DVD provides a great trip down memory lane for those of us who grew up watching wrasslin’ during the early years of Mania.
