Budstikken Is Just As Crunchy As It Sounds

The Association of Scandinavian Neckbeard Growers is proud to announce that Burzum has won for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year for Fallen, Album Cover of the Year for their re-enactment of the Christian Death lyric “Sodomized and Tired”, and Crunchiest Track of the Year for “Budstikken” is it a song about fucking a hot chick in the ass, or maybe a song about smoking some really sticky bud. NO ONE KNOWS! b/c I don’t speak Norwegian.

Varg Vikernes is best known as the man who was convicted of murdering Mayhem’s guitarist, Euronymous, in 1993. Vikernes bass tracks were left in the final mix of the band’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanus album. Vikernes was also convicted on four counts of arson in the burning of historic churches in Norway. he was released from prison in 2009, after serving nearly 16 years.

Fallen is his ninth studio album, and his best since before he went to prison. it’s a touch of black metal, mixed with prog rock, mixed with elements of stoner rock. I started grooving on it a few weeks ago, and it’s been in my heavy rotation ever since.

Budstikken is both the longest and the best track on the album, clocking in at 10:10. but unlike some 10+ min. songs that feel like they drag on, there are no slow parts to Budstikken. it’s a song that feels like it’s only 5 minutes, but could go for another 10. Vanvidd is another great track, that clocks in at just over 7 minutes. the intro and outro tracks serve as complementary buffers to 40+ minutes of Varg Vikernes at his best.
