Harry Podder and The Lost LeBaron

Bob Odenkirk has a new show (hopefully) on [adult swim] Let’s Do This! centers around life at a low-budget movie studio in North Hollywood. they’re so low-budget, their offices are located in a strip mall. Bob plays Cal McKenzie Goldberg, the owner of Cal-Gold Pictures, who also writes, produces, and directs his own movies.

in the pilot episode, Bob is charged with the task of making a propaganda movie for a Ugandan warlord. the warlord wants it to involve magic, as a means to convince the villagers to vote for him in the upcoming election. Bob meets a man named Harry Podder, who kinda looks like some sort of mandwarf (propz to the casting director) Bob gets the idea to film a Harry Podder movie, where Podder is wandering aimlessly thru a parking garage, looking for his lost LeBaron. notable guest appearances by Natasha Leggero (Ugly Americans) as Cal’s ceiling mop entrepreneur/double ex-wife, and Brian Posehn and Jerry Minor in non-speaking roles.

no one was sure what to expect, but everyone was pleasantly surprised by how good this was. I noticed there were a few complainers on the spleen, which temporarily put me off. yeah, this was pretty fuckin’ hilarious. I don’t know why anyone who likes Bob Odenkirk, wouldn’t like this.

this has a very Curb Your Enthusiasm crossed with Troma kinda feel to it. no word yet on whether [adult swim] will turn this into a full series, but they should! fyi, Let’s Do This!, also happens to be the catchphrase Bob used for his character in a season 2 episode of The Life & Times of Tim. this was part of a big-ass nite of watching stuff, but merited it’s own post. more show reviews coming tomorrow!
