Sunday Night Raw

February 22, 2015

five weeks out from WrestleMania, WWE makes a pit stop in the King’s hometown of Memphis, for Fastlane. after months of buildup, Triple H and Sting will finally have their first ever face-to-face meeting inside a WWE ring, to set up their Mania match, and possibly also exchange good housekeeping tips. could it be, that the best part of the “pay per view” occurs on the pre-show when Paul Heyman makes an appearance on Miz TV? any time Paul has a mic, it’s always best for business! here’s a look at the rest of the card:

Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan – it appears as tho for the second year in a row, the IWC has hijacked the main event at Mania, and Vinman will insert DB into another triple threat match for the title. I doubt Brock will make an appearance during the match, but this will probably end in a double countout.

Rusev d. John Cena – there were those backstage that were concerned with the labeling of John Cena as “the old veteran” but technically it’s true. he’ll be 38 in a coupla months, he’s been on the main roster since 2002, and the face of the company for almost a decade. this is sure to be a rematch at Mania, where the golden shovel will triumph over “the Evil Empire”

Usos d. Cesaro & Kidd – tag teams are clearly an afterthought as witnessed by Reigns and Bryan running roughshod thru the entire division a coupla weeks ago on Smackdown. sadly, The Ascension are being groomed as the next tag champs, so I see the Usos retaining.

Stardust d. Goldust – too bad they didn’t save this match for Mania, but if this is indeed the blowoff to the feud, hopefully it means Stardust will go back to being Cody Rhodes.

Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, and Erick Rowan d. Seth Rollins, Big Show, and Kane – Seth Rollins has the world by the balls! he’s Mr. Money in the Bank, his fiance posted pics of his junk online, and he’s involved in a “twittah war” with Jon Stewart. how did he get involved in this throwaway six-man tag match?!? will there be a Randy Orton sighting here? Dolph pins Kane

Bad New Barrett d. Dean Ambrose – after weeks of politicking, harassing, etc. Dean gets his IC title shot against Barrett. BNB hasn’t exactly looked that strong since winning the belt from Dolph Ziggler on the first Raw of 2015. the Mania rematch quotient is high in this one.

Nikki Bella d. Paige – it’s been a while, but WWE finally has another halfway decent divas feud on their hands. Nikki has become the division’s best heel, and should pick up the win here. Paige continues to give chase, heading into Mania.

Raw Review: July 14, 2008

July 15, 2008

first off, Monday Night Raw has gotten a lot better in the few short weeks since they moved Triple H over to Smackdown. last nite’s episode was entertaining from start to finish.

we open with a video message from Shane and Mrs. Triple H. due to the Vinman’s injuries, they can’t be there live, but they just want everyone on Raw to know, that this is the time they all need to come together, and show unity as one. they also want everyone on the Raw roster to know, that they will be watching. following this message, they cut to HBK and Y2J brawling near ringside. Cade comes out to save Y2J, and they escape to the back. Kane is out next to apologize for attacking Cole and King during last week’s broadcast. cut to the back, where Y2J and HBK continue brawling.

womens champ, Mickie James, aka the hottest piece of ass to come out of Richmond, VA since Oderus Urungus, is out next for a non-title match against Katie Lea. at one point during this match, Lea had Mickie in a reverse chinlock thingy where Mickie’s mouth was about 6″ away from Katie’s funbags, good stuff there! Mickie wins the match, but is attacked by Katie and Paul Burchill. Kofi Kingston comes out to make the save, which leads to an impromptu IC title match, which Kofi wins via the “Thunder In Paradise”

backstage interview segment with John Cena, and he’s talking about his upcoming “NYC Parking Lot Brawl” with JBL at GAB. Cryme Tyme join him, and he challenges JBL to find two partners for a six man tag in tonite’s main event.

Santino Marella issues an open challenge to anyone in the locker room. Beth Phoenix accepts, and proceeds to beat him. yes, Santino is used primarilly for comedic effect, but this match has effectively killed his career as a legitimate singles wrestler. no offense to Ms. Phoenix.

tag champs Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase, Jr. are out to cut a decent promo about how they are better than their fathers, and about how they don’t have to pay dues. Jim Duggan comes out and tells them while they have accomplished much in the short time they’ve been on Raw, they still have a long ways to go to mature as adults. Ted gets on the mic and says Duggan hasn’t matured either b/c he still has the same chant, and carries the same 2×4 to the ring he did 25 years ago. BURN!!! JBL asks Rhodes and Dibiase to be his partners in the 6-man tag main event against Cena and Cryme Tyme, which they accept.

next up is a non-title match between Kane and CM Puke. Kane’s got a burlap sack with him (hope he’s not using that to masturbate with) Puke wins via countout, but Kane attacks him after the match. Batista comes out to make the save. words are exchanged, push comes to shave, and Batista lays out the champ with a spinebuster.

Y2J defeated Paul London in a squash match. afterwards, Jericho berates Paul telling him he has two paths he can take in his career. the wise, noble, hall of fame path that Jericho took. or the lying, cheating, deceptive path that Shawn Michaels took. HBK comes out to the ramp, and says while he and Jericho don’t agree on much, there’s one thing they do agree on, that “the worst is yet to come”

Jamie Noble is trying to impress Layla backstage, but winds up picking a fight with Snitsky. Snitsky follows Noble out to the ring, where they brawl for a coupla mins. before Snitsky hits him with a pump handle slam.

CTC defeated JBL, Cody Rhodes, and Ted Dibiase, Jr. by DQ. after the match, JBL lures Cena to the backstage area. he jumps him in the parking lot, and props Cena’s lifeless body up against a car. JBL gets in another car, and rams it head first in to the car Cena was leaning against. JBL gets out to look at what he’s done, and Raw goes off the air.

Closing Notes:
while I was somewhat skeptical at first, the draft lottery has greatly improved the Raw product. that’s probably due in large part to Triple H no longer being there, but hey, whateva.

the ratings are holding steady with Puke as champ so there’s a pretty good chance he’ll retain against Batista at GAB.

HBK-Y2J is hands-down the best feud of 2008.

I am hitting the Monday Night Raw/Saturday Night’s Main Event taping at Verizon Center on July 28. look for a full recap shortly thereafter (hopefully with pics)
